Mount Fuji has for centuries been celebrated in art and literature and is now considered so important an icon that UNESCO recognized its world cultural significance in 2013. Part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, Mount Fuji is climbed by more than a million people each summer as an act of pilgrimage, which culminates in watching the sunrise from its summit.
Mount Fuji (Fuji-san) is the country's highest mountain peak. Towering 3,776 meters over an otherwise largely flat landscape to the south and east, this majestic and fabled mountain is tall enough to be seen from Tokyo, more than 100 kilometers away.
Food and Drink in Mount Fuji
1. Yoshida Udon
Yoshida udon which is made from flour and the famous water at the foot of Mt. Fuji is notable for the thickness of its noodles which have a firm bite. It has a simple flavor with a topping of boiled cabbage and horse meat seasoned with a sweet and salty taste.
2. Oshino Soba
Oshino soba is made from the famous spring water at Mt. Fuji without any additives. The soba enjoyed in the middle of the scenic landscape of Oshino Village on a 940m-high plateau is exceptionally flavorful.
3. Mishima Unagi
The sweet and spicy sauce based on soy sauce draws out the flavor even further from the odorless Mishima unagi(三島市). Eel whose skin has been seared to smoky perfection. This truly nutritious fish has been known to take away fatigue and even contribute to beautiful skin!(三島市). There are many unagi restaurants in the city of Mishima, starting with the venerable Sakuraya(三島市).
